Corrosion 850

Understanding the Course.

The Federal EPA underground tank regulation (40 CFR 280.12) and most state regulatory agencies for UST systems require all UST systems be inspected for corrosion by a qualified (certified) inspector.  This course will teach a person all that is required by these agencies.

In order to become certified the participant must review the outlined material in the "Corrosion 850 Manual" (C).  During the course the participant will be involved with classroom interactive studies, laboaratory type exercises and field exercises.  Each participant will be required to complete a laboratory report, a test on the material covered and a full report at the field exercise.  These scores will prove the individual compotent as a CP tester or if they require additional training.

Elements of the two-day class.

This is a two day course. Typically, the course begins on Wednesday morning and continues through Thursday concluding with the final test and field exercise.

Wednesday morning the participant is presented with the "Corrosion 850 Course Outline" (C) which supports the entire course.  We begin with a basic understanding of the Law as discribed by the Federal EPA.  Topics in the morning and afternoon session will include; why does corrosion occur, what are the supporting components for corrosion, how do we measure corrosion, what type of instruments and how do they work and what is involved in protecting UST systems from corrosion.  The lab work will begin with hands on experiments to understand the corrosion process and how it effects all types of metals.  What happens when electrical energy is applied to the process and etc.

Thursday will begin with a review of the material studied and answering any questions.  New ideas for corrosion protection and upgrading systems will be presented.  The final written exam will be taken and we will go to a site for the field exercise.  The participant will receive a letter with their exam scores and if they pass the course they will receive a certificate.
